DR. KIRANA KEFALOS M.D.

Dr. Kefalos

Dr. Kefalos received her doctorate in medicine from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland Ohio. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital. She then completed her residency in New Haven, CT at the Hospital of St. Rapheal’s, which is affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Kefalos was awarded her Bachelor of Science degree, with distinction, from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Dr. Kefalos practiced internal medicine for 20 years in New Haven, CT where she was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. In addition to seeing patients she taught medical students, interns and residents. She also held meditation classes, “Conscious Living” classes and “Practicing Presence” sessions.

She was voted by her peers as “One of the 100 Best Doctors in Connecticut” in a 2002 survey done by Connecticut Magazine.

She was then honored with being named as “One of the Best Doctors in America” in 2003-2004 and again in 2005-2006.

Always the adventurer and ready for change, Dr. Kefalos moved to the US Virgin Islands in 2005. Dr. Kefalos co-created and practiced at Virgin Island Wellness on St. Croix  from 2005-2011. The time in the Caribbean stands as a very profound, trans-formative period in Dr. Kefalos’ journey. In 2010 while on St. Croix, she was honored with receiving the “Best Wellness Center” and “Best Internal Medicine Physician” awards by the readers of The Virgin Islands Daily News.

In 2011 she relocated to Portland, Oregon where she enjoys the natural beauty and the temperate climate of Oregon and the fierce independence of the Oregonians!

Dr. Kefalos has focused on preventative care from the start of her medical career. She deepened her approach to prevention through healthful lifestyles by attending a clinical training at the Harvard Mind Body Medical Institute in Boston MA. She attended three retreats in the early 2000’s with Eckhart Tolle, including “Practicing Presence for Health Care Professionals.” When working with groups and individuals she drew on the teachings of many others in the traditional, integrative and energetic medical fields, including Deepak Chopra, Andrew Weil, Christiane Northrup, Caroline Myss, Judith Orloff, Donna Eden, Weston Price, and Bruce Fife.

Energy work has become a very large part of Dr. Kefalos’ practice. Dr. Kefalos favors the use of Kinesiology (also known as muscle testing or energy testing) which allows the body to share its inner wisdom. She uses Morphogenic Field Technique (MFT) to assess the body’s needs for nutritional support and to help guide her in making suggestions for dietary changes, organic whole food based supplements or homeopathic remedies. She uses Eden Energy Medicine (EEM) to balance energy patterns and teaches simple Energy Medicine exercises which help improve physical vitality and mental clarity. Although these modalities do not diagnose or treat specific illnesses, they are helpful in assessing energy patterns and both can lead to more physical, energetic and emotional vitality. Dr K is certified in both MFT and EEM.

Dr. Kefalos is a member of The Oregon Medical Association, The Medical Society of Metropolitan Portland, ACAM (American College of Advancement in Medicine) and The American Holistic Medical Association. She stays current in the conventional and integrative medical arenas by attending conferences and reading journals on an on-going basis.

Dr. Kefalos has a strong interest in and working knowledge of nutrition, exercise and mindfulness in relation to wellness and dis-ease of any kind. She will work with you to realize practical changes to your lifestyle. Her suggestions will empower you to optimize your physical vitality, enhance your emotional well-being and heighten your spiritual awareness. drk@drkefalos.com
